Description
Acronis True Image supports VSS-aware databases for both disk-level and file-level backup.
- To be able to backup a running database(that is compatible with Microsoft VSS) on a disk level or on a file level, make sure that the option VSS is selected in Snapshot for backup in backup options. See Performance of backup operation for more information on snapshot configuration.
Consult database documentation to learn whether it is VSS-aware, or contact the vendor for assistance.
- Acronis True Image does not support recovery to a live database. To recover database files, either use bootable media or stop the database before performing recovery in Windows.
if the database software is not VSS-aware, you can use pre/post commands during backup to stop the read-write operations and ensure database consistency for the backup. Please note that some databases require complete shutdown before backup starts for the database to be saved in consistent state, pausing I/O may not be enough.
We recommend to contact the database software vendor to learn more about proper quiescing/stopping of the database before the backup. Specific configurations may require using different commands/scripts.
Please note that Acronis True Image is not designed to back up enterprise-grade database programs such as SQL Server or Exchange. For proper backup of such databases we recommend to use Acronis Cyber Backup. Acronis Cyber Backup offers both application-aware backup and backup of individual databases, as well as granular recovery.
